Sunday Service (22nd September, 2019)
Price
for Exploits
(Hebrews 12: 1-3)
The Sunday message delivered by Rev
Diran Ajao, Ph.d on Sunday 22 September,
2019 at New Spring Baptist Church, Ogbomoso
A. Introduction: The
past heroes of faith have done exploits in their times and have passed the
batons to us (Hebrews 11). They have disciplined themselves to run the
Christian race well and finished strong.
They are watching us on how to run the race. The challenge is that if that if we are vying for the same honor and
laurels, we need also to pay certain price as they have done. The standard is
still the same.
B. Why did they become Heroes of
Faith? What did they do that distinguish them to be receive laurels? If they can
do exploits, we have no excuses also to do exploits. They are people of faith like ours. This question bothers me because I want to do
exploit like them for God’s glory.
The
text explains that Christian life is like long distance relay race. People who
have ran ahead of us are watching us. Cloud of witnesses refers to crowd of
martyrs in the preceding chapters. How did they make it?
Our
text points to three lifestyles that they lived that placed them on high
pedestal. These are what I meant by
price or disciplines that everyone who has decided to do exploits for God.
C. 1 They
put off /removed entanglement that can slow them down in the race. (v.
2) Noah threw away entanglements. He lived in an ungodly world but was never
stained (Hebrews 11: 7). Joseph as a teenager threw away entanglement (Gen
39). Noah’s exploits: He built the Ark.
The world today is still filled with entanglement. What are you throwing off?
Are you still saying “No” to what want to entangle you?
2.
They ran with perseverance (v. 2) Tough times will
come. There are ups and down/ insult on the way for those who cannot compromise
their faith in God. Exploit of Moses was in Hebrews 11:24. Things were against
him but endured. He identified with the pains of his people. The death on the
Cross was a shameful. Jesus never backed out from God’s plan
3.
They ran with a vision. Sarah was barren but never lost her focus on
who made the promise. She considered that God who made the promise never lies.
She was singe-minded. What is your focus? If
they can do exploits, we have no excuses also to do exploits.
Reward:
Commendation (Hebrews 11).

It is not enough to resolve in your heart to stand out
for God, you must also renew your mind (head) and put your faith to work,

exploits (in these evil days). Go in this might!
