Sunday Service (21st April, 2019) - Easter Sunday/ Cantata

TOPIC:    NOW, I HAVE TOLD YOU
TEXT:     MATTHEW 28:1-7
Matthew 28:1-7 (NIV)
1 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.
2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it.
3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.
4 The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.
5 The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.
6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.
7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples: 'He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.' Now I have told you."
INTRODUCTION
The angel of God said this in Vs 7 of our passage. There is a gravity with which the phrase is said that caught my attention. But before Vs 7, there are some things that happened that deserves our attention
LESSON
1.      A VIOLENT EARTHQUAKE OCCURED. God stretched his hands and shook the earth. The ground shook under the evil forces – they became destabilized. The violent shaking tore off the seal of the authority of man
2.      A SHINING ANGEL DESCENDED. Fearsome in look. So much so that even soldiers were terrified. They ‘shook and became like dead men.’  The whole scenario also frightened the women.
3.      THE GREATEST MESSAGE DELIVERED.
-          “Do not be afraid...” Cast off every fear...Your God is living....
-          “He (Jesus) has risen from the dead....” Jesus has conquered death
-          He ...is going ahead of you....” To level all mountains...and fill all valleys...to straighten all crooked paths... He is not leaving you to the struggles of life.
CONCLUSION
After the greatest message, the angel said “Now I have told you.” The news item above all news.... so, what are you to do about it, for the ball is now in your court. Remember,
1.       Jesus (the sent one) had fulfilled his own part; he obeyed his Father, even to the point of death.
2.      God the Father (the sender) had faithfully played His own part, He did not abandon His Son in the grave. He shook the earth to break the seal and sent His angel; He exerted power and raised His Son from the dead.
3.      The Angel (God’s Messenger) said, even I, have played my own part, for I rolled away the stone and sat on it....

Now, I have told you; son of man, the baton is in your hands.... This is the final victory over the kingdom of hell.....
-          Go and tell it to the world, this is a news item that is new every day.
-          Go and live the good news and tell the good news.
