Rev. Akinwale Oloyede delivered the sermon today, on the topic

LESSONS FROM THE SCHOOL OF MARRIAGE
The text was from GENESIS 21:8-14

Where we learnt that marriage is a school where students obtain certificates the day they enroll (Wedding day) but never graduate until death.
God created man and woman as emotional/thinking beings with unique personalities. (Adam and Eve)
The reason some courtships or marriages crash is because they fail to listen to the founder’s voice or voice of reasoning.
Hence the matter that was not handled due to ignorance becomes matters arising

CASE STUDY OF ABRAHAM and SARAH
-  Lesson 1; Marriage is a divine responsibility.   (A serious obligation)

Abraham was responsible and involved in the training of his children… (Gen 18:18-19, 21:8) – financial, spiritual, moral, academic etc, - holistic responsibility
His marital responsibilities (in agreement with Sarah) was founded on oneness and godliness

-  Lesson 2; Marriage requires deliberate sensitivity.   (A serious observation ministry)

Sarah was sensitive. What Sarah saw at the weaning ceremony Abraham did not because women are more observant and sensitive having intuition (21:9).
Marriage survives challenging periods through understanding of each other’s nature. Cf. Abigail/Nabal

- Lesson 3; Marriage thrives on deliberate objectivity.   (A serious opportunity for improvement)

Abraham listened to Sarah with objectivity without buck-passing and did not respond with voice of ego (21:10-11).
What’s your mood of communication at home? pele lako o labo.
Beware of blame game or past references (learn from the illustration of rear & side mirrors in car), Ruth and Boaz

-  Lesson 4; Marriage requires serious accountability   (A serious obligation of a lifetime)

Abraham is a listening man – both to wife/God – listening to the voice of reasoning, intuition and conviction 21:10-14. cf. Joseph & Mary
His distress is a reflection of love and care for his blood not wanting to lose them? say YES to the voice of agape (unconditional love), voice of purpose, voice of obedience, submission to God/spouse
say NO to voice of arrogance, divorce, voice of double-dating, ego

CONCLUDING REFLECTIONS
n which of these life-unit courses do you need God’s grace to improve: is it in
holistic responsibility,
sensitivity,
objectivity or accountability?

 - Single Youth, are you ready to be sensitive to the RED SIGNALS in your relationship? Be sensitive to the voice of reasoning and godly counsel

PASTOR'S CORNER
The school of marriage is a principal faculty in the University of Life. Its courses are not difficult to pass if the eternal formula of the Lord of life is applied. But whenever the formula is not used, failure in Marriage becomes a certainty and success in life very unlikely.

PRAYER FOCUS FOR THE WEEK
Pray against the forces of darkness working against the peace of God in our home.
