Sunday Service (15th December, 2019)

TOPIC:   EMPOWERED FOR EXPLOITS: A REVIEW.
TEXT:  EPHESIANS 2: 4 - 10.
INTRODUCTION
From the first of January this year, we have had one reason or the other to discuss the theme for the year “Empowered for Exploits”
LESSON
1.      WHAT POWER? When we talked of ‘empowered’, the question is What power?
-          Is it the raw energy like that of Anthony Joshua or Roman Reigns?
-          Is it the power of the tongue?
-          Is it the power of deceit… the cunning craftiness of men?
-          Definitely not the power of seduction or the power of position
-          It is not even the power of money
NO
-          It is power of God bestowed on mere man.
-          It is the power not to do as we wish but to do His will. Remember Samson, when he was fighting the battle of God, he could kill a thousand with the jawbone of an Ass, but when the same Samson rose from the laps of an accursed woman, he became as weak as any other man.
-          It is the type of power that Peter used in Acts 3:6 where he told that man at the beautiful gate, look, I don’t have silver or gold, but there is a mighty power that I have…
2.      WHICH EXPLOIT? I remember we defined ‘exploits’ as an – extraordinary deed or achievement – To the glory of God.  A thing is considered an exploit if it is an achievement that is not ordinary, done by the power of God, at His command and to His glory.  (See 1 Chro. 11:17-25 and see the three and Benaiah) (Also see Deut. 32:30. When one person chases a thousand or two put ten thousand to flight….) In Acts 9:10-17, there is an unsung ‘hero’ mentioned there, the man Ananias… “Vs. 10. In Damascus, there was a disciple named Ananias.…” It looks like the Bible is saying, there were other ‘professors’ of faith but “a disciple.” When you see Vs. 13. You will see something beautiful about Ananias…he knew about Saul, he knew he was coming to Damascus with authority from the chief priests to arrest all Christians and Ananias still remained ‘in Damascus’ and when the Word of God got to him to go and meet that arch enemy of the Gospel, Ananias went – he showed the love of God to an enemy….
-          Ananias was ‘a disciple’ probably in the midst of believers…
-          Ananias was ‘in Damascus in spite of threats from Saul
-          Ananias extended the love of God to an enemy
3.      HOW FAR?
Now, how far with you? Are you today where you were 12 months ago?  Are you still as evil as you were? Still a liar? Still a cheat? Still an adulterer? Still a drunk? Have you moved forward decisively positively? Are you now a participator in the work of God or you are still an onlooker?  Are you now a contributor to the Church’s finance or just a pretender? Are you still playing smart with God or are you now fully surrendered to Him?
Irrespective of the level you were last year, are you better today? HOW FAR WITH YOU NOW?
CONCLUSION.
Don’t waste this year of exploits, God power is always available, in the two more weeks remaining, determine to make a mark for God, go now and - do more than before
-          Pray more
-          Give more
-          Study the Bible more
-          Meditate more on God’s word
-          Be more timely
-          Be more loving
-          .........
If you don’t do it now, you would have totally wasted God’s grace of life that you have.
