TOPIC: CHILDREN OF THE WORD
TEXT: JOHN 1:1-3
1 In
the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was with God in the beginning.
3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
2 He was with God in the beginning.
3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
INTRODUCTION
LESSON
The Bible in this passage
establishes a fact that, God is the creator of everything we can see, we can
feel, we can experience....just look round and see the wonderful works of this
awesome God....if I look closely around I will see the goats, the trees
etc....but also I see You and you see Me. ALL by the Word of God...all of us
are Children of the Word....no accidents of nature but all here by the creative
ingenuity of the Word of God. JESUS..... no wonder, you see classic stories
from His creations.....(GEJ....ATIKU.....OBJ... )
Our Maker is the One who
was before the beginning, the one who is far above the mountains – to Him, the
highest mountain peas and the deepest part of the ocean looks same to him
THE BIG QUESTION THEN IS -
How come that the children of the Word becomes
children of the world?
1.
They never realised who they are. (A Crises of
Identity) This has always been the
devil’s first strategy, to shift a person’s gaze from the Truth..... When the
Word came to Jonah....go to Nineveh.... the devil came in and convinced him
that he did not need the Word for direction....and he headed for
Tashish......he never knew it as a path that led into serious storm and ended
up in the belly of a fish.
If only king Saul realised the importance of the Word to him
in 1 Samuel 15:3 (NIV)
3 Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy everything that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.'"
3 Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy everything that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.'"
2. They abandoned
their Source. See
Jer. 2:13
"My
people have committed two sins:
They have
forsaken me,
the spring of living water,
and have dug their own cisterns,
broken cisterns that cannot hold
water.
We must remember that we are made BY the Word, we are
also created FOR the Word.
Whenever we deviate from our Source, life can no
longer be full. It is the Word that made us, it is only the Word that can
sustain us.
CONCLUSION
Remember, the only way
back into fullness is to retrace your steps to the path chatted for you by the
Word. It may look narrow.... know that is is the only path to abundant
life. Always remember that as a child
of the word, your story is a godly masterpiece, it will not end on a negative
note...the night is this dark now because a glorious dawn is about to break.
The Word of God is for your good and the God of the Word is always working out
His purpose in your life. Let me round off with a story..... A TRUE STORY
THE TABLECLOTH
A pastor newly assigned to
a church to go and reopen it arrived October to begin work. They met a run-down
church that needed much work. They set out to work to ....and set Christmas eve
for their first service. By Dec 18th everything was ready. On Dec.
19th a serious rainstorm hit the city and lasted 2 days. On the 21st
the Pastor went to the church only to discover that the roof had leaked and
about 20 by 8 feet of plaster had fallen off behind the pulpit. He cleaned the
mess and was considering postponing the Christmas eve service. On his way home
he saw a shop doing sales for charity.... he stopped and saw a beautiful
handmade, ivory coloured, crocheted tablecloth with a cross embroidered in the
centre. The cloth was just the right size to cover the hole on the front wall.
He bought it and headed back to church. It started to snow then and he saw an
aged woman who just missed a bus and invited her into the church to wait for
the next bus about 45 minutes later. The woman sat on the pew while the Pastor
went ahead to fix the tablecloth to cover the hole. It was a perfect fit.....
then the woman looked up and asked....Pastor, where did you get this tablecloth...then asked Pastor to check
if the initials EBG was there ...and it was.....she had made the cloth in
Austria 35 years ago. Left it with her husband and ran from the Nazis. Her
husband was to follow her the following week.....but he got arrested and jailed
and she had never seen her husband since then....refused Pastor’s offer to take
the cloth....Pastor took her home. On Christmas eve, the service held....everybody
left but an elderly man stayed....Pastor where did you get this cloth....much
like what my wife made for me......(story)..... The Pastor asked him if he can
permit him to take him for a little ride..... a great family reunion
ensued......True story.

PASTOR’S
CORNER
All of creation is a product of the Word of God;
made to project the glory of our Maker. It is unfortunate however that some
humans today rebelliously wallow in ungodliness forgetting that any product
used contrary to its maker’s instruction can never function optimally.
