Sunday Service (10th March, 2019)

TOPIC: CODED FOR GREAT EXPLOITS
TEXT: EPHESIANS 2:4-6, 10
4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,
5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved.
6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,
10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.(NIV)

10 For we are God's [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live]. (AMP)
INTROUCTION
My mechanic lost the key of my Car last week and effectively grounded my car  ……He later got a car of same make and borrowed its key but that could not open it…because my key was coded. The matter brought home to me the importance of this invisible thing called ‘coding’, and convinced me that indeed, Christians are ‘coded’ to do great exploit. …
LESSON.
Today, we focus on Vs 10 where it is said that we were recreated, born anew to do ‘good works’
NOTE WHAT THIS PASSAGE SAYS TO US -
(i)      We are God’s. (By birth and by re-birth) We are His own property. Created by Him, re-created by Him.  So surrender fully to Him
(ii)    We are saved for good works on earth. The blood on the cross of Calvary is all- encompassing – not only take us to heaven, it will also help us on earth
What is it that can make a work ‘good’? Now, let us know that what man calls ‘good’ is different to what God calls ‘good’.  In Mark 10:18 and Luke 18:19, Jesus gave a new definition of ‘good’ when he said “…no one is good except God alone” Therefore, for a work to be good, it must have these qualities.
a.      Initiated by the Spirit of God. (Who is leading your work?)
b.      Executed by faith (Heb. 11:6, Rom. 14:23)
c.       Sustained by Grace (Abilities in us is not the cause of Grace, but the result of it.) Note. Good works are usually bigger than us
d.      Brings Glory to God.
IT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW THAT ALL CHILDREN OF GOD ARE CODED FOR THESE GOOD WORKS BUT MANY REFUSE TO USE THE CODE. YOU CAN DECIDE TO LIVE TO THE FULLEST FROM TODAY BY –
-          Letting the Holy Spirit lead you
-          Stepping forth in faith
-          Depending on God’s grace
-          Refusing to share in God’s glory

CONCLUSION
So, if these cannot be said of what you are doing, then they are NOT the good works God saved you to do.
-          It means God is not profiting from your life (Unprofitable Servant, see Matthew 25:14-30). Imagine God investing the blood of His only Son on you and you give Him no return.

PRAYER –
-          That when your work is tested with fire at the last day, as stated in 1 Cor. 3: 13 – 15, - that it will not be burned up….. and that you will receive your reward

PASTOR’S CORNER
Surely, we are not saved by good works, but certainly, we are saved to do good works, so just like John Calvin said "It is faith alone that justifies, but faith that justifies can never be alone,” we must therefore permit the power of God that saved us to continue His work in us to do His good works.
