Sunday Service (27th January, 2019) - 2019 WMU Focus Sunday

TOPIC: BUILDING A GREAT CHURCH THROUGH FAITHFUL STEWARDSHIP
TEXT: 1 PETER 4:1 – 11
1 Peter 4:1-11 (NIV)
1 Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because he who has suffered in his body is done with sin.
2 As a result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God.
3 For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do--living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry.
4 They think it strange that you do not plunge with them into the same flood of dissipation, and they heap abuse on you.
5 But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
6 For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to men in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit.
7 The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray.
8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
9 Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.
10 Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms.
11 If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

1 Peter 4:10 (AMP)
10 As each of you has received a gift (a particular spiritual talent, a gracious divine endowment), employ it for one another as [befits] good trustees of God's many-sided grace [faithful stewards of the extremely diverse powers and gifts granted to Christians by unmerited favor].

INTRODUCTION
In
the playlet, Mr. Anderson said that a great church requires the following
GALLANT attributes….
Genuine conversion
Acknowledging God
as owner of all things
Living to bless
both members and non-members
Living in unity
Accepting one
another
Nurturing converts
Teaching the word
of God.
Let
us always remember this message from Mr. Anderson as we labor to build a great
Church here.
LESSON
Today,
for this short charge, we shall focus on verse 10 which talks to ‘each one of
you’ that has received a gift (…a gracious divine endowment - AMP). All of you
called by His name because the Lord of life blessed you with the gift of life
and you are members of His church, the charge to you as you desire to build a
great church is
a.
HATE
SIN (1-3) Vs. 1 says “…arm yourselves also with the same
attitude, because he who has suffered in his body is done with sin.”
b.
LOVE
SINNERS (4-6) Vs 5 states that we remember that the unbelievers “will have to give
account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.”
c.
EXPECT
CHRIST’S RETURN (7) ‘The end of all
things is near.’
-
Love
each other(8) “…love each other deeply”
-
Practice
hospitality (9) “Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling”
-
Be
a good Steward of God’s many sided grace.(10)
Indeed God’s grace in many sided …. Your time, money and other things He
has blessed us with, use them to ‘serve others’….when we all do this
faithfully, we can indeed build a great church.
CONCLUSION
We conclude with Vs 11 that says “If anyone speaks, he
should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should
do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised
through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever.
Amen.” Therefore, as faithful stewards desirous of building a great church, do
all you do….speaking ….. serving …… giving
…… conscious that it is His grace
that gives you that opportunity, so do all so that “God may be praised through
Christ.” By that we build a great Church.
