Sunday Service (October 14th, 2018) [Elders' Appreciation Sunday]
Thank
God for our Elders Appreciation Sunday today, where members had the opportunity
to thank God for the lives of our elderly ones in the Church. The Word was
delivered to us today by the Rev.Dr. John Ojo on the Topic:
COMMENDED FOR
FAITH
TEXT: Hebrews 11:1-4
1Now faith is the substance of things hoped
for, the evidence of things not seen.
2For by it the elders obtained a good report.
3Through faith we understand that the worlds
were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of
things which do appear.
4By faith Abel offered unto God a more
excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was
righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
-
Faith is seeing beyond
the present into the future, seeing the possibility of what God can do.
The chapter 11, of the book of Hebrews
presents to us a list of heroes of faith in the Old testament times, who were
commended for their faith. (vs. 2 and 39a)
-
Lets now take a look at
what they did that led to them being commended.
1. Abel:
(vs 4) His person, was acceptable before God.
2. Enoch:
(vs 5) He pleased God
3. Noah:
(ve 7) He obeyed God’s Word to build an Ark
4. Abraham:
(vs 8) He obeyed God’s word to leave his father’s house and move to a land God
promised to show him.
(vs 17) He also obeyed the word of God to sacrifice
his only son.
5. Sarah:
(vs 11) She believed God’s Word that she will have children even at her old
age.
6. Isaac:
(vs 20) He blessed his Children.
7. Jacob:
(vs 21) He blessed His Children’s children.
8. Joseph:
(vs 22) He prophesied about the exodus.
9. Amram
and Jochebed (Moses’ Parents): (vs 23) When they saw that their child was
blessed of God, they kept him safe against the order of Pharaoh.
10. Rehab:
(vs 31) She feared the God of Israel.
All these and many more earned for
themselves a good reputation because of theor acts of faith in their time. The
charge then for us today is that we should never allow the enemy to use our
circumstances to shift our focus away from the goal.
Keep the faith and you will obtain the
promise.
For by doing so, our reward is as stated
in Psalm 92:12-15
The righteous
shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those that be planted in the house of the LORD
shall flourish in the courts of our God.
They shall
still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;
To shew that
the LORD is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.
MAY GOD
HELP US ALL TO PLEASE HIM ALWAYS,
AMEN
PASTOR’S CORNER
It is becoming very common in our society to see children that 'abandon'
their aged ones when alive only to fi ile
pon oti fi ona ro'ka and say many wonderful things about them when they
pass unto glory. Learn to celebrate the aged when alive, for whatever is done
after “the silver cord is severed” will be of no significance to them anymore.
Prayer Focus for the
Week
