Sunday Service (September 9th, 2018)
God
spoke to us in today’s short service, through his servant, the Church Pastor,
Rev. Kayode Oke. And the topic was
GOD’S MINISTRY
OF SERVICE.
TEXT: MARK 10: 43 – 45
Mark 10:41-45 (NIV)
42 Jesus called them together and said, "You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.
43 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,
44 and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all.
45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

INTRODUCTION
Very
few of us want to be known exclusively as a servant. We want to be known as a
servant and a great preacher, a servant – leader, or a famous missionary, or an outstanding
elder, or a well-known business man.
LESSON
Vs.
43. The Lord Jesus said. “Not so with you” (NIV). “But among you, it will be
different”(NLT).
In
very simple terms, the phrase is saying that there is a separate law that
applies to the disciples. While others
might be in a ‘ministry of enjoyment’ or ‘ministry of pleasure’ for us it is a
ministry of service, for our calling is a calling to serve. Others may be big
bosses; we are called to be chief servants.
It is another kettle of fish with
us, their way is NOT our way. The Son of God became the Son of Man, and he is
here to serve and to give
THINGS TO NOTE
ON SERVANTHOOD
1.
A
SERVANT DOES NOT DETERMINE HIS TASKS. Jesus the chief servant once said, ‘Not
my will Lord, but your will be done’
2.
A
SERVANT DOES NOT SEEK HIS OWN GLORY. A servant does all to the glory of his
master. We must always remember that true servant hood does not have hidden
aspirations to be great in the eyes of men. If he is to boast at all, he boasts
in his master.
3.
A
SERVANT DOES NOT SERVE TWO MASTERS -
Luke 16:13 says “no servant can serve two masters, either hate one and love
the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other.” It is in the light of that that Joshua 24:15
say “…choose for yourselves this day who you will serve…” Never forget, a
little in and a little out is a sure way to damnation. Choose one.
CONCLUSION
Are
you truly a servant of God? Prove it by your service to humankind
Pastor's Corner
“He profits most who
serves best.” (Arthur F. Sheldon) This is indeed very true because service not
only touches others for God, it also strengthen our 'spiritual muscles'. Give
yourself to service and be blessed.
