Sunday Service (19-08-2017)

The Church Pastor, Rev. Kayode Oke resumed from his 2-Week leave today, and delivered God’s Word to us, on the topic
EVANGELISM: Lessons from Hushai
Text: 2 Samuel 15:32-37, 17:1-14

INTRODUCTION
It wouldn’t cost God anything to take His children to heaven immediately we give our lives to Him, at least to save us the trouble of going through all the stress we go through as Christians here on earth. But, in his wisdom, He has decided to leave us here to represent him. Unfortunately, we mostly don’t represent Him well. The Bible says in Romans 8:19 that
“The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed.”  Note. This manifestation does not necessarily be that we ride the best of cars or wear designer dresses; it might just be to say the right word when it is needed, might just be to stand up for a girl being cheated somewhere, stand up for truth in a meeting where evil is prevailing….it is being an answer to someone’s prayer…someone said “If there's one thing better than getting an answer to prayer it's being an answer to prayer.” Just as in today’s passage. Hushai was an answer to David’s prayer.

LESSON
1.      STAND OUT.  Hushai must have over the years developed a reputation for wisdom. Hushai was recorded as a friend of the king (1 Chro. 27:33)
2.      STEP IN. (15: 32 -37) Don’t stay aloof, get into the fray. David sent Hushai into the ‘lion’s den’ and he obediently went. Have you agreed with your the Lord as Hushai agreed with David? It is worthy of note that at this point it was definitely easy for Hushai. He just got to that point tired and with his robes torn....
3.      PRAY UP. (17: 1-6) Why on earth would Absalom ever doubt Ahitophel’s counsel if not the work of God. (See the testimony about Ahithophel in 16:23)
4.      SPEAK OUT. (17: 7-14) When the opportunity presented itself, let us all determine to speak out for Jesus. Someone may  be saying that he does not know what to say, don’t worry, for Luke 12:11-12 says “do not worry about...what you will say, 12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say."
For Hushai, he seized the opportunity quickly and spoke to convince the king. Though what he said was not the best of advises, (Just as God uses many of His servants today who are not theologically sound to do a lot of exploits) but that was what God used at that time to fulfil His purpose.

CONCLUSION
As Hushai was a representative of the king in an enemy court, so are we, who are called by God’s name, His representatives on the earth. It is not easy but we must STEP Into situations, PRAY UP and always be ready to SPEAK OUT for him.

PASTOR’S CORNER
Jesus said in Matthew 10:16 “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves”. The call to salvation is also a call to evangelize in a world that is hostile to the Word. Let the Saved continue to use the wisdom of God and His power to win the 'wolves'.
