Family Revival Session 5 (18-07-2018)



We reached the final session of our 2018 Family Revival, and we give all thanks to God for how we've been immensely blessed through our guest minister, Rev. Dr Jerry Akinsola.

Today's teaching was on the topic;
MANIFESTING GOD'S GLORY THROUGH DILIGENCE
Text: Proverbs 26:13-16, 2 Thessalonians 3:6-14

One of the factors that can stop your family from manifesting God's glory is laziness

  • WHAT IS LAZINESS
- Laziness is the misuse of Grace
Consuming without contributing (Matthew 25:26-27)
- Being unwilling to work or use energy
- Lack of goal pursuit
- Preferring idleness to serving
- Testing opportunities as adversities

  • CHARACTERISTICS OF A LAZY PERSON
- Usually had a wrong self-view. He or she either thinks to highly or lowly of him/herself
- Desires pleasure without work. Desires whatever gives immediate pleasure. For example, sleeping.
- Procrastinates. He/She plans earnestly without implementing.
Proverbs 10:4
- Usually regards obstacles as a STOP sign. Because the lazy person regards 'no' as 'never', so he/she quits to quickly.
- Usually afraid to attempt great things.
- Keeps looking for shortcuts to success.
Lives waiting for schemes which will make money, while avoiding work. (Proverbs 28:19).
- Usually blame others for his/her predicament. (Matthew 25:25)
- Is a burden to others (2 Thessalonians 3:8)
- A lazy person blocks the prayers of others. (Proverbs 10:26)

  • LAZINESS LEADS TO;
1. WASTE
Proverbs 12:27, Ecclesiastes 10:18
2. SLAVERY
Proverbs 12:24
3. POVERTY
Proverbs 10:4
4. DISGRACE
Proverbs 10:3

- To manifest God's glory in your home, you need to work.

  • WORK IS...
- Using knowledge, skill and gifts to meet needs.
- Joining God to build and transform lives.
Proverbs 22:29
Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.  

  • YOU MUST BE DILIGENT BECAUSE
1. GOD IS WORKING
- See work as a blessing not a burden. (John 5:17)
Work, service or meeting needs is the price you pay for the privilege you have.
2. WORK IS A LADDER
Promotion or demotion are usually attached to diligence or the lack of it. (Proverbs 22:29, 14:23)
3. WORK IS A GATE
Menial job done well can open great doors.

4. WORK ENHANCES DEVELOPMENT
- Promotes good health and self sufficiency. (2 Thessalonians 3:7-9)
- Gives platform to support others.

  • WHAT CAN I DO IF I'M LIVING WITH A LAZY PERSON
* SET GOALS
Don't deny your wards access to work because of support staff.
* STIR UP GOOD WORKS (1 Thessalonians 5:14)
*SUPERVISE
Follow up
* TOUGH LOVE (2 Thessalonians 3:10)

CONCLUSION
- Laziness affects your health and your purse.
- It Will make you a house whip or scorpion to those around you.

- Work to help others. Ask the Lord to strengthen your hands and to remove any slothfulness in your body.
